Portland to Cancun

We made it!

Yesterday, after 2-3 hours of sleep, we awoke at 3:00am and made it to the airport for our flight at 6:30. The American Airlines check-in lady was awesome, she changed our seats on both flights to the exit rows so that we had lots of leg room. Wonderful!

The flights were eneventful except that the one of us who shall remain nameless and was the one in charge of paperwork thought that we left Dallas at 2:20 (2 hour layover) and arrived in Cancun at 2:20, and also thought we had time to eat lunch. The one of us who was in charge of alcohol thought that didn't sound right. Obviously she hadn't started drinking yet when she figured this out. So, the one in charge of paperwork checked it all right before we landed and guess what? We had had to run to our next flight because we had 10 minutes to get there, but we made it.

On the flight to Cancun from Dallas we had a birds eye view and smell of the folks in First Class and their fresh wholesome salads and freshly baked cookies, while we split a Clif bar and drank half a can each of diet soda each. Which was our first food of the day, other than a small glass of orange juice on the first flight.

Upon arrival in Cancun, we were told that a taxi was $58 to get to the hotel. !!! When we said we'd take the bus, thank you very much! -- Then a lower priced option was presented, a shuttle for $14. We proceed off to the next desk to coordinate with the shuttle, and there we meet a vrey charming Francisco Hernandez Corto. Francisco politely tells us in very good English where the shuttle meets, and that it will be ready in about 10 minutes (Mexican minutes). So, while we're waiting, would we like to hear about what to do in Cancun? Oh sure....if we're waiting anyway.....

Francisco launches into a spiel about how we can get into an all-inclusive club for the day and half off any tours if we just sit through an (approximate) 90 minute presentation during a free breakfast. That's all. Oh, and we have to say that we are 'legally single'. He almost had us up until that point, when he starts telling us that it's a $25 cash each only deposit, that we give to him. Uh yeah.....NO.

So we get outside, and what do you know? There are shuttles lined up outside waiting for people to transport to hotels. So much for the need to wait spiel from Francisco.
