Cancun - Sunday, Day 2 - Part One

Today, we listened to an optional entertaining sales spiel over free breakfast (so we got a voucher for $90 off a local tour of our choice) - on this timeshare and what a great deal it is. A couple of new things to eat this morning -- fresh squeezed watermelon juice, and fried bananas - both very good. It seems that timeshares have come a long way, there are a lot of flexibility these days. Still, after being hit by three levels of sales folks, we held firm on "not today" and got our voucher. 90 minutes had turned into 3 hours, but that's OK. Next stop: Beach

We hit the beach by noon today. First stop -- beachside bar for dos margaritas por favor! Ahhhhhh.......refreshing.

It's interesting on the beach here. We got to experience what we called the Mexican Shopping Network from the comfort of the shade from our palapa and warm ocean breezes. First up on the Mexican Shopping Network -- a guy selling cheap-o woven baskets. Once we realized that this could be entertaining and fodder for the blog, I ran up to the room to get my camera.

First up:
"Hola Senoras! Can I show you my shells? Only $25 each.":

"See, they are very good shells!":

"You can blow in them and they are a horn! See? I show you."

"Or, you can drink Tequila out of them! Like this...":

Second up, Jewelry Guy:
"Hola! Would you like to buy some very nice silver jewelry?":

"See, I have very nice jewelry!":

Third up:
Lady with Head On A Stick:
(we think she was advertising that she would come braid your hair, but it could be that she would behead someone for you, really not sure):

Fourth up:
Sunglass Dude
"Hola Senoras! Sunglasses? I have Chanel, Dior, everything you want?":

At the end of three hours, we wanted to show you our catch of the day, below. We gathered some really nice shells from the ocean (including the rare Budweiser shell), bartered down the Conch shells to $5 each, got two pairs of designer knock-off sunglasses for $10 (original price $35 each), and polished off four large margaritas. Karen managed to get the mirror from Sunglass Dude unintentionally as a free gift with purchase, too:

Rare Budweiser shell:

Now, we're off to shower and head to shop at a local artisan market and get some dinner. Will update later!

The sand and water look lucious!! Living vicariously through your blog is the next best thing to being there.

I love your Mexican shopping network, but the lady with the head is scary!

Have a margarita for me...
